Futbol Club Barcelona, was founded in 1899 by Joan Gamper. He was born in a Swiss canton, and selected maroon and blue as the official team colors because they were the colors of that canton.

The club's stadium is Camp Nou. It can host the biggest number of spectators out of all stadiums in Europe with 98.800 seats in total.

FCBarcelona is one of three clubs never to have been relegated from La Liga having won 21 La Liga titles, a record 25 Spanish Cups, 9 Spanish Super Cups, 4 Eva Duarte Cups and 2 League Cups. They are also one of the most succesful clubs in European football having won fourteen official major European trophies in total, including 15 UEFA & FIFA competitions. They have won 4 UEFA Champions League titles, a record 4 UEFA Cup Winners' Cups, a record 3 Inter-Cities Fairs Cups (the forerunner to the UEFA Cup), 3 UEFA Super Cups and 2 FIFA Club World Cups.

FC Barcelona became the first football team ever to win six out of six competitions in a single year thus completing the sextuple, comprising the 2008-09 La Liga, 2008-09 Copa del Rey, 2009 Supercopa de Espana, 2008-09 UEFA Champions League, 2009 UEFA Super Cup and 2009 FIFA Club World Cup.
