More than a Club

FC Barcelona was founded in 1899 and today is "more than a club."  In Spain, it is the club that most represents the nation and is also one of its greatest ambassadors. For different reasons, FC Barcelona is also "more than a club" for many people living outside of Spain, who see it as a symbol of democratic rights and freedom. This could explain why FC Barcelona has the largest Fan Club Program (Penya) in the world growing day by day.

To capitalize on this and driven by its desire to become "more than a club"  around the world, FC Barcelona became the first Club in the history of the game to have taken on a humanitarian mission. It has partnered with UNICEF to set up an international cooperation program to fight world hunger, to support the UN Millennium Development goal, and to show commitment to UNICEFs humanitarian aid programs by donating 1.5 million euros annually for the next five years. The club also made the decision to wear the UNICEF logo on its jersey's, forgoing one of the club's greatest traditions.

Its recent slogan "more than a club" also is inspired by the club's pivotal social and political role in Spain. FC Barcelona is a club that competes in play, but also beats every day to the rhythm of its people’s concern’s. In addition to it’s many humanitarian aid programs Barca is a staunch defender of democratic rights and freedom.
